On December 14, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued its semiannual report for the second half of fiscal year 2007. Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) specialists--particularly those who are active case managers--and inpatient coding staff should consider giving it a quick look, as it contains several items of interest that the OIG recently audited, including:

  • Quality concerns identified through Quality Improvement Organization medical record reviews
  • Consecutive Medicare stays involving inpatient and skilled nursing facilities
  • Inpatient rehabiliation facility admissions
  • Transition stays at inpatient psychiatric facilities

View the OIG report.

Also, the OIG on January 3 issued a report on high-dollar payments for Part A (inpatient) claims processed by Chisholm Administrative Services, a fiscal intermediary serving Oklahoma. You can read that report by clicking here.
