PPV: OIG Work Plan to investigate CMS’ policies regarding The Joint Commission hospital accreditation process

This year's Office of Inspector General (OIG) Work Plan, released October 1, 2007, includes at least one item that has raised some eyebrows in the HIM world: The OIG plans to review CMS' policies and procedures regarding The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) hospital accreditation process.
What remains unclear is how or why the OIG plans to devote its resources in doing so and how this will ultimately affect hospitals.
