The change to the Medicare Severity DRG (MS-DRG) system brings with it a host of challenges-the most difficult of which is accurately capturing complications/comorbidities (CC) and major CCs (MCC). This is complicated by the fact that some conditions that have been CCs for many years will no longer fall into higher-paying groups, and conditions that were not CCs in past years are now CCs or MCCs with the appropriate documentation.
