HHS expands privacy rule enforcement team

HIPAA privacy rule enforcement may be on the increase.

The Department of Health and Human Service's Office of Civil Rights has three new positions open in the Office of the Deputy Director for Health Information Privacy. The open positions are for Health Information Privacy Specialists, and can be found by searching the federal government's job and employment information Web site for job numbers HHS-OS-2008-0125, HHS-OS-2008-0127, and HHS-OS-2008-0118.

The new Health Information Privacy Specialists will "promote compliance with the requirements of 45 CFR Parts 160 and 164 [HIPAA Administrative Simplification Regulation, Privacy and Security Rule], or otherwise enforce these requirements," according to the Web site.
