Follow these steps for conducting a privacy gap analysis

A gap analysis should be one of the first steps every privacy officer takes on the road to HIPAA compliance.
The final privacy rule says privacy officials must develop and implement privacy policies and procedures. "This is a pretty short sentence, but a pretty tall order," said Jill Callahan Dennis, JD, RHIA, principal of Health Risk Advantage, in Denver.
Dennis discussed conducting a privacy gap analysis during a December 10 audioconference, sponsored by The Greeley Company, a division HCPro in Marblehead, MA, entitled, "The HIPAA Chief Privacy Officer . . . How to be successful in your new role."
