CMS created the five-star rating systems to assist patients, families, and caregivers in comparing their options for care, including home health. Home health agencies that have at least 20 completed surveys during the four-quarter reporting period are eligible for HHCAHPS star ratings.
There are two types of star ratings:
  • The Patient survey star rating: This is based on patients’ and families’ experience of care measures (including HHCAHPS survey data) and are published on CMS Home Health Compare website.
  •  The quality of patient care star rating: This was formerly the Home Health Compare star rating. It is based on OASIS assessments and claims data.
