The organizations responsible for the official ICD-10 coding guidance recently issued a clarification that would require home health agencies to designate an “A” as the seventh character in an ICD-10 code for any encounter during which the patient is still receiving active treatment for a clinical condition. While in many cases this scenario would not apply to home health, there are times when it could, such as during antibiotic treatment for a postop infection.
