CMS proposes bundled hospital payments for care related to hip and knee replacements

Last week, CMS issued a proposed rule to bundle hospital payments for services related to hip and knee replacements, which the agency has identified as the most common types of inpatient surgery for Medicare beneficiaries—and ones that often come with lengthy recovery and rehabilitation periods. This proposal could also hold significant implications for home health providers, which may care for patients following these surgeries and which would in turn be expected to step up service coordination with their hospital partners.
