Don't Forget About State Rules
Homecare Insider, June 25, 2012
Your state rules governing homecare agencies should be available on your state’s department of health website. Educate your staff regarding the state rules, pointing out any differences or additional guidelines related to the federal regulations. Patient rights are a good example of where additional requirements may exist. Look closely, because your state rules may contain additional patient rights that you are required to inform your patients of. Incorporate these into your patient rights statement.
Be aware of any policies/procedures that should be written in accordance with state rules, just as you do the federal regulations. For example, some states regulate the transport of medications, whereas the federal regulations do not address this, so you may need a policy based on your state.
