Quality Initiative Organizations (QIOs) Undergo Renovation

Homecare Insider, August 15, 2011

Beginning in August 2011, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is renovating the QIO Program, in keeping with the changes in healthcare. QIOs will refocus their efforts to a larger scale with four major areas of focus included in the Tenth Scope of Work (SOW). QIOs will work on:

  • Beneficiary and family centered care
  • Improving individual patient care
  • Integrating care for populations and communities
  • Improving health for populations and communities

As a result of this renovation, QIO projects will be shorter, emphasize collaboration and partnership, work with healthcare providers at all points, promote effective care coordination, promote the best prevention and treatment possible for the leading causes of mortality-beginning with cardiovascular disease, and help communities support better health. QIOs will also work to assure that care is person and family-centered.
