Happy Holidays and a Great New Year!

Homecare Insider, December 22, 2008

An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in.  A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.
Bill Vaughan, an American columnist and author

It would be easy to understand why homecare providers could be pessimistic as 2008 comes to an end – all the glitches in implementation of the revised Prospective Payment System (PPS), the major fraud initiatives in California, Florida, and other parts of the country, the impact of Medicare Advantage, to name a few.  The picture becomes bleaker looking ahead to 2009 – the $1.60 increase in the episode payment rate, the national expansion of the Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) program, continuing repercussions from survey and medical review.  However, it is important to be optimistic as the new year begins.  A new year means we’ve all survived and can start with fresh expectations.  You can count on Beacon Health being there to help you meet the challenges.
