Speakers Lynn Buchanan, CPMSM, CPCS and Cris Mobley, CPMSM, CPCS used their 2007 National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) presentation "Show Me the Data...AND the Money!" to teach MSPs how to expand their office resources. They recommended that MSPs use data gathered from an audit or staffing analysis to:
- Justify keeping the resources you have
- Advocate hiring additional full-time employees (FTEs)
- Redefine, if necessary, work among current FTEs
- Support purchasing better technology
- Define productivity goals
- Rationalize outsourcing some work (e.g. CVO)
More information about conducting your own staffing analysis can be found in Credentialing Audits: Tools for Compliance and Reduced Liability, by Vicki L. Searcy, CPMSM, available here.
