Large scale medical fraud ring uncovered

Puerto Rican authorities have uncovered a large-scale fraud operation that used bribery and deception to obtain medical licenses. More than 80 people, including doctors and licensing board officials, were indicted by a U.S. grand jury for their roles. Most of the defendants have been practicing as physicians in Puerto Rico, and at this time authorities do not believe that any of them have practices on the mainland; however, authorities are searching for other suspects in Florida and Philadelphia.
Some of the defendants had failed their medical exams before turning to illegal means of obtaining licenses. These included bribing officials, using other candidates' exams as their own, and allegedly forging documents with the help of a licensing board secretary.
