Tip of the week: Audits should be proactive rather than reactive

Rather than taking a reactionary approach to medical staff office issues that arise, healthcare organizations should be proactive and consider performing audits on issues that they deem important or problematic. For MSPs, the credentialing and privileging processes are a great place to start.

A logical first step in determining what information to audit is for the director of medical staff services or the director of credentialing to contact members of the credentialing committee, the hospital CEO or chief operating officer, and others with ties to the medical staff office to ask what information about the credentialing and privileging processes they would like to receive on a regular basis.

Alternatively, the director of medical staff services could also provide an inventory of the types of audits that could be conducted to give those groups and individuals an idea of the possibilities.
