Synchronizing security across Wisconsin hospitals

Medical staff offices already conduct background checks of applicants and outline their disaster plans in their bylaws. However, one Wisconsin program is synchronizing these security procedures with other safeguards-such as protecting hazardous material-so that a network of hospitals can work together to increase safety.

For MSPs at participating hospitals, that means a greater focus on verification efforts. "The levels of background checks and screening is extensive" for all medical personnel, Thomas told the Stevens Point Journal.

The Wisconsin Hospital Emergency Preparedness Program encompasses an 11-county region and will be funded by the Department of Homeland security through 2012.
