Doctor uses robot stand in

First went the house calls, then went the late-night, bedside visits. One Baltimore-based physician is touting the benefits of his videoconferencing robot stand-in. "The system allows you to be anywhere in the hospital from anywhere in the world," Dr. Alex Gandsas told The Associated Press. Gandsas uses the robot to visit patients at night, or when problems arise and he can't be on hand.
His patients are reaping the benefits, as well. Out of the doctor's 376 patients, 92 of them who had additional robotic visits had shorter stays, according to Gandsas' chart-review study. Similar robots have been used in other hospitals to help stroke patients with therapy and to serve as a translator when the doctor and patient speak different languages.
