The Texas Medical Board is experiencing processing delays for new licenses because of a dramatic increase in the number of applicants. Increasing numbers of doctors are being drawn to the state because of new limits on malpractice lawsuits. The licensing process, which used to take between 20 and 45 days, can now take more than six months.

Critics worry that the delays could cause doctors to rethink their move. Currently, there are about 2,400 applicants waiting for approval in Texas.
