The American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration issued a guide to help human resources (HR) professionals manage and assist healthcare employees before, during, and after disasters. The ASHHRA Disaster Planning Guide was inspired by members of the society who lived through the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, which included Hurricane Katrina, and saw a need for resources focused on disaster planning and response from the HR perspective.
According to a press release from ASHHRA announcing the guide, its creators realized that few resources exist that focus on preparation and response phases of disaster scenarios from the HR prospective. The guide provides recovery tools, techniques, and other materials for all phases of a disaster (i.e., pre-, during, and post), so healthcare organizations can act with confidence in times of disasters.
