Effective July 1, 2007 in California, Health & Safety Code section 1279.1 will require hospitals to report "adverse events" to the Department of Health Services within five days of their discovery. Events that are ongoing, urgent, or emergent threats to the welfare, health, or safety of patients, personnel, or visitors must be reported within 24 hours.

The new law will also be the focus of an upcoming HCPro, Inc. audioconference. For more information about the program, or to sign-up, click here.
