Comparative data play important roles in the medical staff office (MSO), ranging from conducting effective peer review to evaluating reappointment requests to establishing indicator guidelines for your practitioners. Such data are also the basis for physician report cards, which many organizations use to evaluate, record, and communicate physician performance.
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released a Web-based searchable database of over 200 sample report cards used by various organizations. According to AHRQ, "the samples show formats and approaches for providing comparative information on the quality of health plans, medical groups, individual physicians, nursing homes, and other providers of care."
The Health Care Report Card Compendium is available at www.talkingquality.gov/compendium/.
