While some people may use these terms interchangeably, they actually have distinct meanings-and confusing the two can lead to misunderstandings.
Credentialing refers to an overall process of gathering and verifying information, reviewing that information, and, ultimately, deciding whether or not to credential a prospective practitioner, i.e. granting (or denying) medical staff membership.
Credentials verification speaks to a more specific part of that process that determines whether or not that prospective practitioner's credentials are, indeed, authentic.
