The process for credentialing and privileging should be clearly outlined in the medical staff bylaws of the hospital. But some hospitals take the requirements of the Joint Commission a step further.

 

For example, Hospital A may require an applicant to provide information about all malpractice suits, settlements, and judgments, while Hospital B might require the same information, but only those that have occurred in the last five years. 

 

While both satisfy the Joint Commission's requirements for addressing professional liability, the specifics may differ.
