Q&A: What are the managed care equivalents to hospital titles commonly encountered in credentialing?
Credentialing & Verification Update, February 28, 2007
A: Often, the titles of boards, committees, or staff with nearly identical roles at a managed care organization (MCO) vary slightly (or not so slightly) from their equivalent in a hospital setting. Here is a quick reference of hospital-to-MCO titles and offices:
- Medical staff - panel
- Medical staff office - credentialing office, or provider relations network development
- Medical staff appointment - panel membership
- Medical executive committee - peer review committee
- Medical staff member - participating provider or practitioner
- Department chair - medical director
- Medical director - medical director
- Board - governing body or board
- Credentials committee - practice panel
