Where should I look for information about continuing medical education requirements?

The final section of The Joint Commission's Medical Staff standards deals with continuing education. It simply states that all licensed independent practitioners and other practitioners privileged through the medical staff process must participate in continuing education.
Most state licensing boards define the required number of hours of continuing education necessary for license renewal. It's just common sense-how can a practitioner be judged competent in this ever-evolving practice of medicine if they do not participate in continuing medical education? Continuing education is an important factor in evaluating both initial and reappointment applications to the medical staff.
