More on verifying a practitioner’s military credentials

Credentialing & Verification Update, February 14, 2007

After the January 31 edition's Q&A on how to verify practitioners' military credentials was published, a reader wrote in with a clarification specific to verifying data for Navy practitioners.

There is a central location from which the civilian medical staff professional (MSP) attempting to locate and verify Navy credentials should begin his or her search, regardless of whether the Navy practitioner is Active Duty or separated from the Navy. If the provider is still Active Duty, the civilian MSP can contact the facility where the Active Duty practitioner is currently working, and the Navy MSP can assist with any verifications.

Credentials files from practitioners who separate from the Navy are kept for 10 years at the following facility:

Navy Medicine Support Command

ATTN: Ms. Dawn Tindell

Box 140 Code M3H

Jacksonville, FL 32212-0140.

Telephone: 904/542-7200 ext. 8138/8127/8111.

Editor's note: Any civilian MSP who has questions or needs additional help regarding the Active Duty practitioner can contact Georgi Irvine, CDR, NC, USN (Ret), BSN, MA, CPHQ, CLNC, head of Active Duty Medical and Dental Staff Services at the Navy Medicine Support Command in Jacksonville, FL, at 904/542-7200 ext 8111 or by email: Georgi.Irvine@med.navy.mil
