The Joint Commission has issued an official statement regarding a report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) which affirmed the steps taken by the accreditation organization to ensure its integrity from the organization's consulting division, Joint Commission Resources.
"The Joint Commission concurs with the GAO's assertion that ensuring the independence of the Joint Commission's accreditation process is vitally important in safeguarding the safety and quality of hospital services provided to Medicare beneficiaries and the public at large," said Joint Commission president Dennis S. O'Leary, MD, in an official statement.
The accreditation organization's official statement can be found on the official Joint Commission Web site at http://www.jointcommission.org/NewsRoom/NewsReleases/gao_1_07.htm.
