The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Services (JCAHO) has issued a call for evidence-based performance measures that pertain to "the key domains, sub-domains, and performance areas" as being important aspects of osteoporosis management.
According to the Joint Commission's official statement, the JCAHO received external funding to identify a set of performance measures designed to bring about improvement in osteoporosis management. Though the there is at this time no intent to use these measures in the accreditation process, a monograph will be published in late 2007 to help providers choose evidence-based measures in this area.
For more information as well as details on how to participate, visit the JCAHO's Web site at http://www.jointcommission.org/PerformanceMeasurement/CallsforParticipation/osteoporosis_man_pm.htm.
