The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that hospitals will have until October 9 to submit emergency Medicare graduate medical education affiliation agreements in response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Earlier this year, the CMS issued an interim rule allowing hospitals to create more flexible agreements in response to natural disasters and other emergencies. This latest announcement extends the deadline for submitting emergency agreements to 180 days after the publication of that rule.
