The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has announced 2007 National Patient Safety Goals and related requirements, applying to nearly 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs.
Major changes among goals include an extension of a requirement that accredited organizations "define and communicate the means for patients and their families to report concerns of safety" across all JCAHO accreditation and certification programs, according to an official press release.
"The 2007 National Patient Safety Goals target critical areas where patient safety can be improved through specific actions in healthcare organizations," said Dennis S. O'Leary, MD, president of the Joint Commission, in a written statement.
