Over two dozen companies have endorsed a set of new standards from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) focusing on how health plans share the results with their members to help inform consumer choice.
According to an official statement from the NCQA, health plans seeking distinction in physician and hospital quality must demonstrate that they measure the quality and cost of in-network hospitals and physicians and act on information about cost in conjunction with information about quality whenever possible.
The standards are intended to drive measurement and reporting of provider performance.
