The American Hospital Association (AHA) has issued a statement calling for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to dig deep enough in its study of physician investment in specialty hospitals to answer questions raised by Congress when it commissioned the study.
These questions include:
- Are the physician investments proportional and bona fide?
- Should the Department of Health and Human Services require annual disclosure of investment information?
The AHA asked that the study includes detailed information on investors, financial relationships and service offerings facilities are required to maintain and supply to CMS under Stark II rules.
