The American Medical Association (AMA) has announced the launch of its National Disaster Life Support (NDLS) program, aimed at preparing healthcare professionals to respond to large scale, catastrophic events.

NDLS courses involve a universal curriculum focusing on integrating roles and responsibilities for healthcare professionals on the community, state and federal level during such events as hurricanes, floods, terrorist attacks, or infectious disease outbreaks.

The program is available in 38 states, and plans are underway to expand the program internationally.
