The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced its approval of a new class of New Technology Intraocular Lenses (NTIL) following the review of a 2005 application for an intraocular lens meant to compensate for corneal spherical aberrations and to improve vision.
"Today's announcement of coverage with additional payment for an innovative type of intraocular lens reflects Medicare's attention to improve clinical benefits," said CMS Administrator Mark McClellan, MD, PhD, in a written statement. "For these lenses, there is clear evidence of improved functional vision and contrast acuity."
