The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations announced that organizations participating in its Healthcare Staffing Services Certification Program will undergo on-site reviews every two years. Previously, participating organizations were reviewed annually.
As part of the transition process, the JCAHO will highlight the continuous nature of the certification process, and emphasize continuous standards of compliance by enhancing certification requirements.
The JCAHO launched the Healthcare Staffing Services Certification Program in 2004 to meet quality oversight needs arising in recent years as a result of significant, ongoing shortages of nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals, forcing many organizations to fill these positions with temporary workers through staffing firms. This program provides an independent, comprehensive evaluation of a staffing firm's ability to provide competent staffing services.
