Plans by JCAHO staff to use hospital patient data to provide analyses for third parties received objections from multiple members of the JCAHO Hospital Advisory Council earlier this month. The plan was presented to the council at its November 4 meeting.
JCAHO staff members stated the organization intends to "become a purveyor of performance data analyses" and would use hospital's patient data to create those analyses.
In objections similar to those stated previously by the American Hospital Association, Council members recommended there be no reference to "patient level data" in the principles.
