The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations has established a new initiative to help patients continue their recovery after leaving the hospital as part of their "Speak UP" program. The program offers tips to help people get the information they need and become actively involved in their recovery.
Patients who understand and follow directions about follow-up care are more likely to heal faster and less likely to require re-hospitalization. This JCAHO program goes beyond the advice offered by healthcare professionals regarding follow-up care to demonstrate how patients and their families can make a difference in the patient's recovery.
For more information on "Speak Up," see JCAHO's official web site at http://www.jcaho.org/news+room/news+release+archives/speakup_081705.htm
