The Division of Practitioner Data Banks (DPDB) of the Health Resources and Services Administration is now considering a new service that would provide hospitals with an immediate notice if one of their organization's practitioners were reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB).
The DPDB-- the organization that runs the NPDB and its sister group the Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB)-has proposed the Proactive Disclosure Service (PDS), which would notify healthcare organizations upon receipt of any data bank reports naming any of their registered practitioners.
Instead of querying the NPDB every two years, hospitals would submit a roster of practitioners who hold privileges and/or are on their medical staff, according to Mark Pincus, associate director for policy and analysis at the DPDB, who spoke at the fall National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) conference in Miami.
