Hold onto your pocketbook, the JCAHO says it will increase survey fees for all its accreditation programs next year. The JCAHO, in its August issue of JCAHOnline, says it will set those fees when its Board of Commissioners holds a special meeting on September 7 to consider various options. The increase will vary for each accreditation program.

While the fees will increase beginning in 2005, the JCAHO says that starting in 2006 it will allow organizations to spread their survey fees over the three-year accreditation cycle, rather than absorbing the increase all in one year.

The JCAHO says it will notify organizations of the fee increases following the board meeting to allow them time to budget for the increase. This is the second time in the last 10 years the JCAHO has increased survey fees. "The increase is essential for Joint Commission activities, and is directly attributed to inflation, improved customer support, and increases for surveyor compensation, and training," the accreditor says.
