The JCAHO wants to know what hospital leaders think about its proposed standards for a new certification program for health care staffing services.
The accreditor just released the proposed standards on its Web site for review by health care organizations. In recent years, a shortage of nurses has forced many healthcare organizations to fill positions with temporary workers from staffing agencies. These agencies are not subject to any quality oversight mechanism. JCAHO's new certification program, set to begin before the end of the year, will evaluate an agency's ability to provide competent staffing services.
Draft standards can be reviewed at www.jcaho.org. Organizations and individuals who want to submit feedback electronically can do so through June 9.
