The NCQA recently released for public comment its draft standards for managed care organizations, preferred provider organizations, and managed behavioral healthcare organizations. If approved, these standards would take effect in January 2004, according to an NCQA press release.

Credentialing professionals should take note that the proposed standards contain changes to the following credentialing standards:

  • CR 1, credentialing policies
  • CR 2, credentialing committee
  • CR 3, verification of board certification, education, and training
  • CR 9, performance monitoring
  • CR 10, ongoing monitoring of sanctions, complaints, and quality issues
In addition, the proposed standards would add seven Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures to the existing 22 measures.
