St. Mary’s Health Center in St. Louis says it provided appropriate care to a patient who visited its emergency room in September complaining of leg pain and a possible sprained ankle. After being treated, Anna Brown refused to leave the hospital and was arrested for trespassing, according to an article on msnbc.com. A physician at St. Mary’s told police Brown was healthy enough to be locked up. While in police custody, she died from blood clots that formed in her legs and traveled to her lungs.

According to an article on msnbc.com, the hospital released a statement saying it followed appropriate medical guidelines and tests. However, Brown’s family hired an attorney and is considering a lawsuit because they say Brown was treated unfairly.
