The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) recently launched its electronic Credentials Verification program, starting with 20 international medical schools. The participating medical schools now receive and verify their students’ and graduates’ medical education records electronically.

The ECFMG assesses whether international medical graduates are ready to enter U.S. graduate medical education programs. According to a press release from the organization’s web site, ECFMG has obtained primary source verification for more than 500,000 medical credentials. By going paperless, issues such as cost of mailing, transit time, and lost documents are eliminated.

The organization plans to open the Credentials Verification system up to other schools once the pilot program is complete. It also plans to launch another electronic credentialing system later this year. To read more, click here.
