We've all seen it before-a patient sues a hospital after a bad outcome, and the plaintiff's lawyers claim malpractice on the part of the treating physicians, dragging everyone else who was even remotely involved in the case into a long, drawn-out battle. The case takes years and costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to litigate and possibly millions in payouts. By the end, everyone emerges bedraggled and worse for wear.
