Healthcare reform law phases out HIPDB

It’s not quite time to say good-bye to the HIPDB, but it’s important for medical staffs to know what databank changes are coming down the pike.
Section 6403 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires the HHS Secretary to cease operation of the HIPDB and to transfer the HIPDB data to the NPDB.
“[Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)] is in the process of drafting the Notice of Proposed Rule Making for this merge. It is expected to be published in 2011 for public comment,” says David Bowman in the office of communications at HRSA. “For the most part, the current reporting and querying requirements will be maintained with only minor adjustments to accomplish this merge.”
