Dear readers,
When we celebrate the New Year in a couple of weeks, we won’t just be ringing in a new year, but a new decade. Television and radio stations are jamming the airwaves with top ten lists for the decade. If you’re looking for a fun way to commemorate the decade in your medical staff newsletter, try making a list of the top ten changes the medical staff services department (MSSD) has undergone in the past ten years.
Some of the items on the list might bring a smile to your face and help you appreciate how much you achieved, especially when it comes to technology. How many of you e-mailed reappointment applications in 2000? How many of you required medical staff members to have e-mail addresses in 2000? If you were internet savvy ten years ago, did you back up all your files in case of a Y2K emergency?
No doubt clinical changes affected the work of the MSSD over the years. What new specialty programs did you hospital add in the last decade? And what medical staff leaders really used their positions to implement long lasting changes?
Hopefully this walk down memory lane will be as entertaining as it is an inspiration for the future.
Best wishes for a wonderful and productive New Year,
Emily Berry
