Dear readers,
Believe it or not, autumn has officially begun, and with it comes the holiday season. If you thought is was difficult helping your medical staff provide on-call coverage while every one hit the beach this summer, wait until the leaves start falling and the turkey needs basting. Even the most dedicated professionals will want to squeeze in as much family time as possible.
Employing locum tenens is one way medical staffs provide patient coverage during heavy vacation seasons. A recent blog post on the Delta Locum Tenens Web site reminded practitioners to schedule their locum tenens coverage before booking their flight. From the MSP's perspective there is also planning to be done. The following tips should help you through the holiday and locum tenens season.
- Review your locum tenens policies to ensure your credentialing requirements meet current accreditation standards
- Remind your medical staff leaders that locum tenens need their credentialing and privileging oversight as much as other providers and it’s important not to rush their applications through the approval process
- Ask your medical staff to submit their vacation plans as soon as possible so locum tenens schedules can be created.
- Keep a list of locum tenens who worked particularly well with your medical staff and ask them back to your organization the next time you have a coverage need.
Sincerely,
Emily Berry
