Georgetown University sued over defamatory NPDB entry

Carlos F. Gomez, MD brought charges against Georgetown University because of its National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) report about Gomez, according to an August 28 Washington Business Journal article. The palliative care physician claimed that the report, which said Georgetown denied Gomez privileges because of a substance abuse problem, was false and defamatory.
Gomez claimed that Georgetown recruited him, and the organization was aware of his past substance abuse problem and that he has been sober for the last five years. In the news article, a Georgetown representative said that the organization does not believe it acted inappropriately in its report. The case is ongoing.
