What specialties can your medical staff services department expect to credential more of in the future? If the recent Massachusetts General Hospital expansion is any indication, you can expect to see a need for adult autism specialists.
The Boston hospital received a $29 million grant to expand its current pediatric autism program and to add an adult component, the Boston Globe reported. Autism is typically diagnosed and treated in childhood, but patients can never fully overcome it. According to the article, the lack of adult autism specialists causes many adult patients to continue to seek care from their pediatricians.
