Most credentialing applications make it over the first hurdle

Dear readers,
Recently a reader asked us if we had any statistics about the number of applications that advance to a credentials committee review. We didn’t at the time, so we launched a poll on our blog to find out.
The results are in, and the majority of hospitals reported that only 1% of complete credentialing applications don’t advance to the credentials committee. In this case, the reason for not making it to the committee didn’t matter—it could be because the practitioner decided to withdraw the application, because the information in the application didn’t meet the criteria to advance to the next stage, or for other reasons. The point is that most applications make it over the first hurdle to face a medical staff leadership review. As such, it’s important for the MSP working with the application to carefully process it and organize the related documents. The application may be on your desk today, but it will be on the desks of many others tomorrow, and it’s important that the information it contains be clearly presented.
Sincerely,
Emily Berry
