A s social media Web sites continue to expand their reach from the personal to the professional realm, they are heading into a new territory—clinical medicine in hospitals. Earlier this year, Henry Ford Health System in Detroit became the first hospital to Twitter during a surgery.
MSPs may be asking themselves whether practitioners need special privileges to broadcast their procedures or whether online documentation of these procedures can be admissible in peer review cases. But before you start asking those questions, it is important that the medical staff services department (MSSD) understands today’s social media environment.
